The debate that Indian bands should carve out a new sound, rather than ape bands from the west will never really ebb. But there are a few who have already taken to infusing rock and genres with signature Indian sounds. Last time with Mirror Jam, you got a glimpse into this synchronization with Raghu Dixit Project, Strings and Susheela Raman. This weekend you get another chance to sample the best from the indie scene courtesy Mirror LiveJam.
On Saturday, check out the Delhi-based outfit Advaita which returns to the city after a sold out performance last time around. The eight-member band (one of the largest on the indie scene) were a part of Coke Studio and their songs Ghir Ghir and Rasiya are concert regulars.
Expect tracks from their upcoming album too. Ending the night will be Karthik, the multi-lingual singer who will be performing with his four-year-old cover band, Bennett and the band. The singer has lent his voice to the likes of AR Rahman and Ilaiyaraja’s compositions.
On Sunday, don't miss the performance by the grandfathers of the indie scene Indian Ocean. Over the past 22 years, Indian Ocean has inspired and broken stereotypes in the music scene. They released their latest album, 16/330 Khajoor Road online, a couple of years ago. Expect a mix of new and old tracks.
Where: Bandra Fort, Bandra (W)
When: January 28 & 29 at 6.30 pm on both days.
Entry: Free. Collect your passes from the Times of India Building, VT and Trade Avenue, ground floor, Suren road, Andheri (E). Available on first-come-first-serve basis from 10 am to 5 pm.
